Non-Profit Affiliations and Partnerships – LULAC – Helping hands

One of the many ways that International Lawyers PLLC aims to help both domestic and international communities is through our ties to nonprofits, in addition to our legal support for families, individuals, businesses, and entrepreneurs on their immigration journeys. We believe that providing comprehensive support for individuals around the U.S. and the world is crucial to helping vulnerable populations.

Nonprofit Ties in the Community

At International Lawyers PLLC, we are proud to have ties to the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and to Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers. At our firm, we work tirelessly to support our community through our work in immigration law and in supporting and aiding charitable projects like those spearheaded by LULAC and Helping Hands. Our practice enables us to help those around the world in addition to our nearby communities. We provide the support they need to achieve new opportunities.

About the League of United Latin American Citizens

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is a nonprofit that serves Hispanic populations in the U.S. The mission of LULAC is to push forward and improve the economic standings, housing, health, education, political representation, civil engagement, and rights of Hispanic communities in the U.S. Its support extends to Hispanic populations in all U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

LULAC was founded in 1929, making it the oldest and largest Hispanic organization in the U.S. It was created to empower Hispanic communities at a time when the U.S. denied Hispanic citizens fundamental civil and human rights.

The league was created due to the careful and necessary unification of three Mexican American organizations in Texas: the Knights of America, the Sons of America, and the League of Latin American Citizens. As Hispanic populations grew in other states, the mission of LULAC continued to support all Hispanic communities in the U.S.

LULAC Programs

Today, LULAC has more than 138,000 members, supporters, and community volunteers, and there are more than 523 LULAC councils nationwide. Some of the programs that LULAC uses to provide support and empowerment to Hispanic populations include:

  1. Education programs and LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC), which focus on policy advocacy and education program movements to improve the academic achievement and educational involvement of Hispanic students
  2. Civic engagement programs, which focus on educating and aiding citizens in civics and citizenship
  3. Health programs to address health disparities
  4. Technology programs providing computer technologies to aid with schooling, employment, and many other areas of life
  5. Women’s empowerment programs to support and motivate women in many aspects of their lives
  6. Other programs to support communities all around the U.S.

LULAC fights for the rights and interests of Hispanic communities, including all Hispanic nationality groups, aiming to improve health, housing, education, and other essential areas for populations that rarely get the support they need and deserve. It’s a nonprofit organization that not only supports but is also led by and involves Hispanic individuals and communities.

Like LULAC, International Lawyers PLLC has significant ties to Hispanic communities, and our team aims to always provide the support, care, and resources our communities need to grow and thrive.

About Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers

Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers is an Oregon-based nonprofit that focuses on supporting homeless individuals and providing them with the support and resources needed to reach and maintain a sustainable life. The nonprofit offers emergency housing, long-term housing, reentry programs, and support throughout several of northern Oregon’s counties, including Clatsop County, Lincoln County, Tillamook County, and Yamhill County. The Bybee Lakes Hope Center, which is located in the Portland Metro Area, provides care and transitional housing.

The first Helping Hands location was an eight-bed center in Seaside, Oregon. Since then, the organization has expanded to 11 facilities around the state, with more than 530 beds offered each night. Throughout 2023, 90,306 beds were used throughout emergency and reentry program centers.

Helping Hands believes in providing support that is centered around each individual person, with trauma-informed care and methods supported by data. According to the 2023 impact report released by Helping Hands, the nonprofit served 2,025 unique individuals in the year 2023 and served 94,545 meals. More than 1,100 individuals were served in Multnomah County, where the Portland center is located.

The Helping Hands program provides emergency shelter for anyone in need, and some can then enroll in the reentry program. The reentry program provides custom care to each individual, working to address barriers in their life. Reentry has many components, such as community service, drug screenings, support and recovery groups, and life skill classes.

A Network of Comprehensive Care

Helping Hands has several community partners and referring agencies to create a network of support and client referrals. This can include agencies such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Medical providers
  • Fire departments
  • Churches
  • Mental health provider
  • Oregon Department of Human Services offices
  • Community action groups
  • Law enforcement agency
  • Business owners
  • Social service agencies

These and many other groups, agencies, and organizations help provide a network of care throughout the state.

Much of the staff at Helping Hands has experienced homelessness, including the founder and president of the nonprofit. This experience helps them provide focused and empathetic care. To Helping Hands, providing each individual with personalized support is crucial. The goal is to provide the skills, network, and resources needed to achieve sustainability in life.

Like Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers, International Lawyers PLLC works to provide the clients we support with the resources and information they need to grow their opportunities.

Areas of Practice at International Lawyers PLLC

International Lawyers PLLC can be your singular destination for immigration legal support. We support immigrants in the U.S. and worldwide. Our attorneys can help you file paperwork on time and correctly, provide you with individualized advice about your options for immigration or temporary stays, and learn about your long-term wishes to help you achieve your goals.

When you save time dealing with U.S. immigration law, you can focus your attention on other important areas of your life, including your family, your employment, your business, and preparing for travel.

The team at International Lawyers PLLC can help clients with several immigration needs, including:

  1. International Consulting

When you are based abroad, it becomes much harder to navigate U.S. immigration laws. It is especially difficult when you are not fluent in English. You may be a foreign national looking to move or a foreign corporation looking to invest in the U.S. Regardless of your circumstances, it is much easier to understand what is required of you with the help of a legal consultant in the U.S.

International Lawyers PLLC can provide international consulting for families, employees, entrepreneurs, investors, and corporations. We can help you determine your temporary and permanent visa options. Our firm speaks English and Spanish fluently, enabling us to help Hispanic communities more effectively.

  2. Business-Based Immigration

Business-based immigration refers to immigrant and nonimmigrant visas granted for employees, executives, managers, specialized workers, seasonal workers, investors, traders, and other business professionals. Finding a skilled attorney is crucial to the success of your business or employment goals.

Whether you are transferring employees within a company, establishing new offices and investing in the U.S., or immigrating on an employment-based visa, International Lawyers PLLC can help. We lay out your options for temporary travel or a permanent move and advise you on which better supports your short-term and long-term business goals. We understand the importance of your business and provide the care needed when managing business-based immigration needs.

  3. Family-Based Immigration

Family-based immigration allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to sponsor specific family members to live in the U.S. Families may immigrate together or apart, and this can be a stressful and difficult process. Immigration laws are continually changing, which can increase confusion while filing.

Prior to beginning the process, it’s important to know what route will help your family and cause the least stress and time away from each other. A majority of family-based visas enable a path to permanent residency and eventual citizenship. However, eligibility depends on familial relationships, and it’s often easier to obtain a visa as an immediate relative of a U.S. citizen.

International Lawyers PLLC can help you understand the visa options available to you and identify the most effective way to reunite your family in the U.S. We understand how important and delicate family-based immigration cases can be.

  4. Immigrant Personal Injury Claims

When you are injured because another party was negligent, careless, or reckless, you can file a personal injury claim. If you would not have been injured had the other party taken appropriate care, you can recover monetary compensation. This compensation can cover medical bills, lost income, emotional damages, physical pain, and property damage. You can also hold the party who caused your injury legally accountable.

Personal injuries may occur from a car accident, another motor vehicle accident, dangerous public or private premises, an injury at work, a negligent medical provider, or exposure to dangerous substances. Many immigrants are more vulnerable to these dangers due to more dangerous forms of employment, but they can occur anywhere and anytime.

Immigrants often have additional worries that most U.S. citizens may not have to consider when dealing with injuries and civil claims. A personal injury attorney is crucial for anyone who has suffered a personal injury. However, an immigrant who has suffered a personal injury needs an attorney who understands their unique struggles and circumstances.

At International Lawyers PLLC, we can help you protect your right to compensation when you are injured because of another party’s negligence. We can provide support to documented and undocumented immigrants. If you have been injured, contact our team as soon as possible.
